Historical understanding of the development of translation concepts and strategies for translating poetic texts from the Old Uzbek language is a poorly studied aspect in Uzbek translation studies. A comparative study of the translation experience of famous Russian translators is necessary both to explain the history of literary translation of Uzbek literature into the languages of the world, and to develop the theory of literary translation in Uzbekistan. From this point of view, the translation and meta-translational work of the professional poet-translator from the Turkic languages S.N. Ivanov (1922-1999) is of great scientific interest. S.N. Ivanov, in his forty years of scientific and translation activity, translated a lot from Old Uzbek, Azerbaijani, Tatar, Turkic, Turkmen, Uzbek languages, as well as from Persian-Tajik literature. In the list of his numerous translations, one can see a whole galaxy of Uzbek classics - Alisher Navoi, Gadoi, Atoi, Munis Khorezmi, Lutfi, Hafiz Khorezmi, Babur, Mashrab, Furkat, Nodira, Uvaisi, Dilshod, Zebunnisy, Anbar-otyn, etc. In addition to lyrical genres , he skillfully translated three major epics from the Turkic languages, which rightfully belong to the golden fund of Russian oriental studies. However, the work of Alisher Navoi obviously interested Sergei Nikolayevich more than others. This is evidenced by numerous translations of the poet's works, carried out at different times over the past century. With this in mind, the author of this article aims to explore the metacommunicative translation activity of S. Ivanov. “Metatranslation”, or as it is also called “paratranslation” in Western European science, refers to the field of cognitive and methodological activity. Metatext" is a text describing the translator's attitude to his professional activity, his analytical judgments about the translation process, that is, the disclosure of an inaccessible "black box". In this regard, it is important to study the translation strategies of S.N. Ivanov, identified in various meta-translational texts of the translator. Metatexts created by Ivanov in different years of the last century are presented in the form of an analysis from the experience of their own translations, as well as analyzes of translations of other famous translators, as "foreign" translations. Critical introductory articles / afterwords, annotations, comments on collections of works by Alisher Navoi published in Russian, not yet studied in theoretical terms.
